Travel Like You Live There, Travel Like Anna

Home Base: Austin, Texas  Current Location: Portugal

Hi, I’m Anna Mazurek — a freelance photographer, writer, and vagabond based in Austin, Texas.

I have a master’s degree in photojournalism from the University of Missouri and have spent the last 15 years traveling/living in five states and five countries across four continents.

I’ve traveled to over 70 countries, mostly solo (often with my globetrotting gnome), and my work has been published in National Geographic, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, AFAR, and Travel + Leisure.

I also teach journalism courses at Texas State University, workshops at the University of Texas at Austin and lead photo expeditions for National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions.

Why I Started This Travel Blog

Travel is my top priority in life. I don’t have a trust fund; I simply made a choice. I started this blog in 2014 on my first backpacking trip in South America. My goal was to document my travels and share the experiences, tips, and advice I’ve learned the hard way because I want to help you travel the world, too. My goal is to dissolve the fears and questions standing between you and your next adventure!

My work has appeared in

National Geographic, Washington Post, AFAR, Wall Street Journal, Travel + Leisure, Texas Monthly, Dwell, Australian Rolling Stone, Facebook (Meta), Southern Living, American Airlines’ American Way, The Denver Post, Google/Zagat.com, Austin MonthlyAustin Home, skirt! magazine, The Progressive Farmer, Charleston magazine, The Birmingham News, Fine Woodworking
