Kerala feels more like the Caribbean than India – a laid-back atmosphere, perfect weather and palm trees! The area is famous for two things: spices and the backwaters, a series of lagoons that parallel the Arabian Sea in Southwest India. It was a Portuguese colony until the 1950s, and it’s the cleanest part of India. I spent last week living on a houseboat on the backwaters and riding camels down the beach! It’s tied with Leh as my favorite part of India! Add it to your travel to-do list!
